Obituary for Alta Phyllis Rishel
Alta Phyllis Shrock Rishel, 96, of Clearfield and Hyde, passed away early Thursday morning December 20, 1918 at Mt. Laurel Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
Born December 6, 1922 in Bigler Township, she was the daughter of John F. and Leah M. (Croyle) Shrock. Alta was a 1941 graduate of Clearfield Senior High School and a veteran of WWII from 1944 to 1945, serving in the US Navy Waves.
She worked for Murphy’s 5 & 10, Penelec, Tom Lingle Construction Company, Aughenbaugh Coal Company and Rishel Contracting Co.
Alta was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Association, Circle Sarah, Sunday School Class #27 and the Visitation Committee, as well as a volunteer at the Clearfield Hospital, Heart Association and Shaw Public Library.
She belonged to the Keystone Travel Trailer Club, Watt Knott Club, Pinochle Club, Merry Widows, Lift of Clearfield & DuBois, the Red Hat Ladies Society and will be remembered as an avid reader, a collector of nativities and for her recycled cards.
On August 29, 1947 At the Presbyterian Church in Clearfield, she wed Malcolm Edson Rishel who preceded her in death on August 27, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clay L., Robert D. and Thomas L. Rishel, a sister Emma Shrock Lewis, and nephews Bernard. Lewis, and Rodney Rishel and Jay Shrock.
Surviving is a sister Florence S. Rogers of Clearfield, two brothers James I. Shrock of CT and John A. Shrock of GA. Also surviving are nieces and nephews Dean Shrock, Dennis Shrock, Donna Shrock Vilsack, Gayle Lewis McIntosh, Thomas L. Shrock Jr., David L. Shrock, Kathy Shrock Philliips, Gaye Shrock Meijer, Gloria Shrock Arkwright, Robin Shrock, Gregory Rogers, Daniel Rogers, Susan Rogers, Martena Rogers, Henry Rogers, Cari Shrock Smith, Tracey Shrock Markham, Sharon Shrock Hanna, Leah Shrock Schoenbachler, Emily Shrock Burton, Nancy Rishel Hackel, Penelope Rishel Alexander, Kip Rishel and Robin Rishel.
