Born February 6, 1931 in New Millport, a son of R. Thomas and Bertha (Westover) Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell retired in 1981 with 31 years of service from General Motors Chevrolet Division in Buffalo, NY. He was a former member of the Tonawanda, NY F. & A. M. Masonic Lodge, and was a member of Local #774 U.A.W.
On September 27, 1969, he married Gail Lyla (McQuown). After retiring, they returned to the Caldwell homestead and built their own home on the property where Amos was originally born. This same property was established by his Great Grandfather (Reuben Caldwell) in 1857. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Union Church near Erhard. He loved nature, business, pinochle, and peanut butter milkshakes. He was kind and had a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Gail, Mr. Caldwell will be missed by his children: Amos D. Caldwell Jr. of Grand Island, NY; Lucille Leadbetter and husband Thomas of Tonawanda, NY; Jeffrey Caldwell and wife Sharon of Williamsville, NY; Susan Rothrock and husband Thomas of Erie, PA; and William Caldwell and wife Gail of New Millport; ten grandchildren: Danyelle Bellinger, Helen Becker, Darcy Stadelmaier, David Rothrock, Lauren Daley, Julie McGivern, Jesse Leadbetter, Angela Altieri, Christina Caldwell, Emily Caldwell and 12 great grandchildren. Amos will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille (Goss), a second wife, Pauline (Frankhouser), a brother Mark Caldwell Sr. and a sister Lydia. He was the last surviving member of his generation of the Caldwell family.
Funeral Services for Amos Caldwell will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Thursday May 13, 2021 at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend Michael Knepp officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brisbin, PA.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday May 12, 2021 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and again on Thursday from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
