Obituary for Anthony Thomas Blackburn

A. Thomas “Tom” Blackburn


Curwensville: A. Thomas “Tom” Blackburn, 87, of Curwensville passed away Wednesday September 10, 2025 at Ridgeview Healthcare after a lengthy illness.


Born October 9, 1937 in Curwensville he was the son of Robert and Helen (Hoover) Blackburn. He was a 1955 graduate of Curwensville Area High School. He had worked at North American Refractories for 42 years before his retirement.


He belonged to Knepps Camp and was a former officer. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Curwensville. And a member of the United Brick and Clay workers union #448.


He loved is family and was a very proud father and grandfather.


Mr. Blackburn is survived by his wife of 68 years Peggy (Knepp) Blackburn of Curwensville; two children David Blackburn and wife Donna of Valprisso, IN, and Darlene Hoover and husband Gary of Cherry Tree. Five Grandchildren Jennifer Bodenhorn (Wes), Jolene Gazdich (Todd), Molli Duchon (Nate), Curtis Blackburn (Ope), and Zane Hoover (Jackie). Nine great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. Two sisters Esther Neeper (Leonard) and Catherine Goodlin (James). And numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, son Anthony Thomas Blackburn Jr. Three sisters Ruth Bloom, Mary Thorp, and Ann Mikesell. And four brothers Sam, Robert, James, and Richard.


Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 16, 2025 at 11 AM at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc of Curwensville with Rev. Ed Roberts officiating. Interment will be held in the Crown Crest Cemetery.


Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home on Monday September 15, 2025 from 4-6 PM and on Tuesday from 10 AM till the time of services at 11 AM.
