Obituary for Benjamin Jacob Hummel
Benjamin Jacob Hummel, 87, of Clearfield, passed away Wednesday December 12, 2012 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born August 24, 1925 in Clearfield, he was the son of Daniel Wesley and Helen (Wilson) Hummel. Mr. Hummel was the owner operator of the former D. W. Hummel & Sons in Clearfield. He was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield and had been a member of the choir. During his wrestling career at Clearfield High School, he was a state wrestling tournament runner-up.
He was a Navy C.B.’s veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He was also a member of the Clearfield American Legion Post 6, and a 60 year member of the Clearfield Lodge Free and Accepted Masons. He was a charter and life member of the Lawrence Township Vo. Fire Dept.
He had wed the former Shirley Jean Thomas in July of 1948 and who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister Elaine Beekman.
Surviving is a son Richard “Rick” Hummel and his wife Becky of Clearfield, a grandson Dr. Lynn Hummel of Emporium and a granddaughter Ann Hummel of Baltimore. He is also survived by a brother Daniel Hummel and his wife Marilyn of Clearfield.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hummel will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Saturday December 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Dr. Joleen Willis officiating. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Grampian RD.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday December 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM.
