Bettie J. (Lucas) Rummings


DuBois: Bettie J. (Lucas) Rummings, 93, of Curwensville passed away Friday June 27, 2025 at Christ the King Nursing Home.


Born September 14, 1931 in Curwensville, she was the daughter of Harry G. and Lorena V. (Ferrel) Lucas. She was a 1949 graduate of Curwensville Area High School. She was a member of the Curwensville Alliance Church. She was a life member of the Curwensville GFWC and former member of the Curwensville BPW club. Along with her husband Athol she owned and operated the Rex Theatre in Curwensville, and the former Rummings Dry Cleaning in Curwensville.


Bettie enjoyed family get togethers, bus trips, going to yard sales, collecting dolls and camping. She loved to cook and won 1st place for her apple pie at the PA State Women’s Club competition.


She is survived by three children Linda Johnson (Edward) Grampian, Kathie Simcox (George) Reynoldsville, and Scott Rummings (Melissa) Houtzdale. Five grandchildren Kenneth Johnson (Tammy Tubbs) Grampian, Jason Whitaker Reynoldsville, Jamie Whitaker Dixon Falls Creek, Allison Dombrosky and Kaitlin Dombrosky both of Tallahassee, FL. 4 great grandchildren Katie Morris (Brandon) of Brockway, Kyle Whitaker of Philadelphia, Joe Griffin of Clarion, and Julie Griffin of Dubois. And two great great grandchildren Aspen and Miles Morris of Brockway.


She was the last member of her generation.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Athol C. Rummings who she wed June 27, 1949 in Curwensville and was preceded in death on August 8, 2008, a grandson Kevin Johnson, brother Robert Blaine Lucas, Sister Jane (Lucas) Swales, half brother Alman “Bud” Lucas, and half sister Helen “Sis” Lucas.


Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Steve Shields officiating. Interment will be held in the Crown Crest Cemetery.


The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Curwensville Alliance Church 725 Susquehanna Avenue, Curwensville, PA 16838 or Rescue Hose & Ladder Company 408 Filbert St. Curwensville, PA 16833.
