Obituary for Betty J. Test

Betty Jane (Michaels) Test, 79, of Curwensville passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 after a lengthy illness.


Born Aug. 2, 1945 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Howard and Vivian (Remaley) Michaels.


She was a 1963 graduate of Curwensville Area High School where she was active in the choir, bandfront, press club, yearbook staff, and the National Honor Society. Betty had a long career in customer service and office administration. She worked as a soda jerk at the Guglielmi Drug Store, a teller at Curwensville State Bank, a secretary for both the St John’s Lutheran Church in Clearfield and the Curwensville Presbyterian Church, and the special education administrative assistant at Curwensville Area Schools. Betty also worked as the deputy tax collector for Curwensville Borough from 1990 until her retirement in 2022.


She was a member of the Curwensville Presbyterian Church where she sang in choir and served in leadership positions as a Trustee and an Elder. She belonged to various social and service organizations, including the Curwensville Clearfield Hobby Garden Club, the Curwensville-Pike Township Historical Society, the Curwensville Women's Club, the Curwensville Golden Tide Band Boosters, Cub Scout Troop #13, and the Curwensville Borough Bicentennial committee. She enjoyed sewing, decorating, and games of all sorts. Betty was very fortunate to have traveled to many places with her family.


On May 24, 1969, at the Curwensville Presbyterian Church, she wed John Duane Test and had a loving marriage for 56 years. Her husband Duane, of Curwensville survives; along with two sons, Scott E. Test (Heather) of Curwensville, and David M. Test of Lemont; a granddaughter, Emma E. Test of Curwensville; and her beloved cat, Ruby Killmouseski. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Gaye Michaels of New York, Carol Michaels of Curwensville, and Janet Michaels of Grampian; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Time spent with family and friends was essential to Betty's life. She loved her many roles as daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.


She was the last member of her generation.


She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wallace Michaels, Willard J. “Jim” Michaels, John “Jack” Michaels, Robert L. “Bob” Michaels, Dorce A. Michaels, and Gary L. Michaels; a sister, Sally Barrett; and two sons who were born sleeping, Darren Duane Test and Daniel Aaron Test.


A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Curwensville Community Center at 1 p.m., with Pastor Gary Jewart officiating. After the service, a reception will be held until 3 p.m., during which time light refreshments will be served.
