Cornelius “Connie” Kovall

DuBois: Cornelius “Connie” Kovall 95 of Grampian passed away Thursday November 9, 2023 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born March 16, 1928 in Grampian he was the son of Stephen C. and Anna (Fedroff) Kovall. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving for 3 years just after WWII ended. He was a brick layer/ mason by trade. Being the owner and operator of C. E. Kovall Masonry for over 40 years.

He was very active in his community, having served as Curwensville School Board t president, president of Grampian PTA, helped with Rails to Trails, and serving on the Kratzer Run Sewer Authority. He was a member of the Clearfield B.P.O.E #540, and Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post 6.

He was a member of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian where he served on numerous committees and was a past Lector.

His greatest joy in life was his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite pastime was conversing with anyone who would lend an ear. He loved getting to know people.

On April 4, 1959 he wed the former Virginia “Ginger” Richards of Grampian, who survives along with 2 children David Kovall (Monica) DuBois, and Kathleen Sopic (Ed) Clearfield. Grandchildren Janessa Passmore (Shawn), Kayla Kovall, Jonathan Kovall (Dawn), Annie McDermott (Patrick), Elizabeth Leah (Matt), Madison Greenland (Nathan), and Maggie Sopic (Wil). And nine great grandchildren Elizabeth Rose Mathews, Hunter Passmore, Logan Passmore, Frankie McDermott, Brooks McDermott, Blake Leah, Bridger Leah, Max Greenland, and Vivian Greenland. A sister, Geraldine Van Hook, of LA, and a sister-in-law Anne Kovall of Gettysburg, along with numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Jill Freeman, grandson Ryan Mathews, brothers Stephen J., Frank A. and George C. Kovall, and a sister Irene Cassidy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian on Thursday November 16, 2023 at 10 AM with Rev. Father Stephen Collins as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.

Family and friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc of Curwensville on Wednesday November 15, 2023 from 4-8 PM.

The Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Bonaventure Cemetery Fund c/o St. Timothys Church 306 Walnut St. Curwensville, PA 16833
