Obituary for David Robert Bonsall
David Robert Bonsall, 83, of Curwensville, PA, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021, at his residence.
Born July 6, 1937, in Grampian, PA, he was the son of Walter and Maude (Freeman) Bonsall.
On May 28, 1960, he wed the former Caroline Elensky from Curwensville, PA, and would have celebrated sixty-one years this May. Mr. Bonsall, a devoted father and grandfather, is survived by four children and their spouses: Susan Mirdamadi and husband Massoud of Winter Park, FL, David W. Bonsall and wife Stephanie of Columbus, GA, Valerie Smilo of Curwensville, PA, and Vickie Baybutt and husband Richard of Winterville, NC. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Maude Bonsall, brother Richard and sister-in-law Rosemary Bonsall, and a sister Nancy and brother-in-law Ralph Addleman.
Mr. Bonsall was a devoted and well-loved sixth grade elementary school teacher working in the Curwensville Area School District. He retired after thirty-three years of service to his community. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania (Clarion State Teachers College).
He was a US Naval Veteran, serving between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was associated with the United Methodist Church of Grampian, the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the Curwensville Education Association. He also was a member of the Curwensville American Legion Post 505.
Public viewing will be held Friday, May 21, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary B. Jewart officiating. Interment will follow at the Friends Cemetery in Grampian.
