Obituary for Donald Charles Spencer
Donald Charles Spencer, 79, of Curwensville, passed away Thursday morning, January 14, 2010 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center, West.
Born February 22, 1930 in Grampian, he was the son of Lester Amos and Esther Mae (Teats) Spencer. Mr. Spencer was retired from the General Motors Corp. as an assembly person, and had also worked for the Hepburnia Coal Co. in Grampian as a heavy equipment operator.
He attended the Faith Bible Church in Lumber City and was an avid gardener and woodworker. On July 6, 1953 in Rockton, he wed the former Joanne Leonard who survives along with 5 children. Mona Coulter and her husband Tom, Susan Bowman and her husband Jeffrey and Joseph S. Spencer and his wife Dana all of Curwensville, Sherry Prisk of Downingtown and Michael J. Spencer of Grampian.Â
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two sisters. Jean Irwin and her husband Jerry of Tunkhannock and Eleanor Witherite and her husband Harry of Holly Hill, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Donald C. Spencer Jr., 2 grandsons Matthew Prisk and Donald Hale, 6 brothers Vernon, Dean, and Joseph Spencer and Dallas, Floyd, and Filmore Kessler, and 3 sisters Dorothy Kessler, Edith Hillhouse, and Betty Day.
Funeral Services for Mr. Spencer will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Sunday January 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Scott Schultz officiating. Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian, PA.Â
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday January 16 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, and Sunday from Noon until time of services.
