Obituary for Dr. James Lind Olson
Dr. James Lind Olson, 81, of Washington, DC, and formerly of Curwensville, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2015 at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
 
Born May 3, 1933 in Curwensville, he was the son of Walter and Lena (Turner) Olson.  Mr. Olson was a graduate of Curwensville Area High School, received his DDS from the Baltimore School of Dentistry, received his Mortuary Degree from the University of District of Columbia, and received his Master’s Degree in Language from Middlebury College in Vermont.
 
He had taught in both the Curwensville and Philipsburg-Osceola Mills School Districts and last taught high school at the Walter Johnson School District in Montgomery County, Maryland.  He also taught school in Africa for 1 year on a Middlebury Scholarship and had taught in Greece for 1 year.  He served as a dentist in the Washington DC area for a number of years until his retirement, and was also retired from the US State Department as a Linguist.
 
He was a US Naval Veteran of the Korean War and was United Methodist by faith.
Mr. Olson was a world traveler.
 
Surviving is a sister Marlene Haversack and her husband Edward of Annapolis, MD, a niece Jamie Wilson, and 2 nephews Steven and Eric Haversack.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents.
 
At the request of the family there will be no public visitation.  A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date.   Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
