Obituary for Edward B. Danvir
Edward B. Danvir, 86, of Gulf Shores, AL, and formerly of Grampian, passed away October 16, 2011 in Gulf Shores.
 
Born August 5, 1925 in Grampian, he was the son of Richard and Grace Danvir.  As a Naval Veteran of the Second World War, he enlisted in November of 1943 and attended basic training at the Naval Station in Great Lakes, IL.  And Naval Aviation School in Memphis, TN. He later attended Gunnery School in Corpus Christi, TX, and went to Quonset Point, RI for night Squadron Training.  He was deployed in June of 1945 on the USS Enterprise and returned from service in November 1945.  Ed was awarded medals for the American Campaign and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, as well as the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
 
Ed worked in the Pennsylvania coal industry for most of his life, and was the co-owner of Shale Hill Coal Co. in Grampian.  He enjoyed dancing, golfing, Penn State football, hunting, Mardi Gras, crew celebrations, home improvement projects, playing cards with his wife Pat and spending time with his family.
 
He first wed the former Ethel Spencer on June 22, 1943 in North Tonawanda, NY and who preceded him in death on March 14, 1994.  His children include Carrie Danvir who preceded him in death on December 2, 2010 and her partner Karen Humes of Clearfield, Barbara Beish and her husband Preston of Grampian, Edward “Dan” Danvir and his wife Joanne of Truth-or-Consequences, NM, and Deborah Cunningham and her husband Paul of Gibsonia, PA.
 
His grandchildren include Melanie Lenz and her husband Kurt of St. Petersburg, FL, Matthew Beish of Newburyport, MA, Amanda Greenland and her husband Brandon of Pittsburgh, Stacey Cunningham of New York, NY, and Natalie Cunningham of Gibsonia.  In addition he has two great grandsons Andrew Greenland and Will Lenz.
 
He was then married to the former Patricia Goodwin on October 3, 1994 and resided in Gulf Shores, AL until his death.  He is also survives by three step-sons, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
 
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Church in Grampian on Friday December 16, 2011 at 10:30 AM, with the Reverend Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  A reception will follow in the parish center.
 
The family suggests contributions be made to the Father Howard K. Niebling Scholarship Fund of St. Bonaventure’s Church P.O. Box F Grampian, PA  16838.
