Born January 15, 1927 in Curwensville, he was the son of Harry L. and Mabel (Swatsworth) Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell was a U S Naval Veteran of World War II having been station in Panama as a Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class. In 1952 he began working for R. L. Curry Construction which eventually became Curwensville Construction of which he became Co-Owner and retired on January 1, 1991.
He was a lifelong member of the Community Baptist Church of Curwensville, enjoyed hunting, especially turkey and large game having taken many hunting trips out west. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Wild Turkey Federation.
On October 18, 1947 he wed the former Eleanor E. “Honey” Hess, who preceded him in death on January 3, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son Greg Caldwell, three brothers Darrell, Archie and William Caldwell and two sisters Lorna Caldwell and Marion “Tim” Watkins.
Surviving are three children: Barbara J. Curry and husband Donald of Curwensville, Judy M. Barrett and husband Ronald of Fennelton and J. Bradley “Spider” Caldwell and wife Karen of Port Matilda as well as a daughter-in-law Linda Caldwell of DuBois.
Also surviving are Nine Grandchildren, Sixteen Great Grandchildren, Three Great Great Grandchildren, two Brothers and two Sisters. Keith Caldwell of Curwensville, Dorothy Burns of Sebring, FL, Malcolm Caldwell and wife Roberta of Glen Richey and Norma Jean Roberts of Petal, MS.
Funeral Services for Elmer Caldwell will be held at the Community Baptist Church Route 453 South Bloomington on Saturday October 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Pastor Todd T. Hogue officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery of Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Friday September 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and again on Saturday at the church from 10 AM until time of services at 11. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
