Obituary for Elsie L. Withers
Elsie L. Withers, 86, of Clearfield, passed away Friday November 18, 2011 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born September 20, 1925 in Wing, ND, she was the daughter of Philip and Katherine (Singer) Weber. Ms. Withers was retired from J. C. Penny in Clearfield, and during World War II, she was one of the women referred to as a “Rosie the Riveter”, working in the northwestern United States during the war. She was Lutheran by faith.
Surviving are 5 children: Roy Withers and his wife Laurel and Charles Withers, both of San Diego, CA, Barbara Vaughn of Mahaffey, Deborah Shank and her husband LeRoy of Williamsport, MD, and Julie Bakaysa and her former husband Greg of Curwensville.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Melanie Vaughn of Mahaffey, Christy Vaughn Collins of Curwensville, Kari and Kylee Shank of Hagerstown, MD, Stephanie Gibson and Elyse Withers of Folsom, CA, Matthew Withers and Bellamy Withers Metcalfe of San Diego, CA, and Jared and Gabrielle Bakaysa both of Curwensville.
In addition there are 3 great grandchildren Chloe and Gabrielle Gibson and Miles Metcalfe, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Martha Weber Haugan and husband Jerome and Tilda Haugen and her husband Glanis both of Pelican Rapids, MN, David Weber and his wife Shirley of CA and Philip Weber and his wife Doreen of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Roy Withers, brothers Walter, Calvin and Reuben Weber and sisters Alma Curfman and Loretta Verrichione.
Funeral Services for Elsie will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville, on Tuesday November 22, 2011, at 2:00 PM, with Mr. Gary B. Jewart officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomington Cemetery Curwensville RD.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until time of services.
The family suggests contributions be made to either the Curwensville Public Library 601 Beech St. Curwensville, PA 16833, the American Cancer Society 25 S. Second St. Clearfield, PA 16830, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
