Obituary for Ethel Arbutice Bumbarger
Ethel A. Bumbarger, 97 of Curwensville passed away Thursday December 16, 2010 at Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.

Born July 14, 1913 at Westover, she was the daughter of Joseph Shubert and Tillie G. (Conrad) Shubert Hullihen.  She worked as a waitress at the Goff Acres Tea Room in Grampian for the George Squires family where she met and married Carl E. Bumbarger Sr. on August 27, 1931.  After nearly 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 1, 1991.

She enjoyed reading, walking, traveling, and embroidery work and being a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter Freda C. (Bumbarger) Swatsworth and husband Bud of Clearfield and a son Carl E. Bumbarger Jr. and wife Norma of Curwensville.  Also surviving are five grandchildren Gregg E. Swatsworth, Todd A. Swatsworth, Lance Bumbarger, Neil Bumbarger, and Chris E. Swatsworth Sr. as well as 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Perry Hullihen, a granddaughter Gayle Ann (Bumbarger) Jacobs on May 5, 1987, a sister Maude. And 6 brothers: Joseph, Harry, Russell, Darl, Gerald, and Ronald.  She was the last member of her generation.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bumbarger will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Sunday December 9, 2010 at 3:00 PM, with the Reverend Stephen Shields officiating.  Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday December 19, from 2 PM until time of services at 3:00 PM
