Obituary for Gary Irwin (Doc) Woodel
Gary Irwin “Doc” Woodel, 56, of Clearfield, passed away Saturday October 24, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness.
 
Born August 11, 1959 in Clearfield, he was the son of K. Gilbert Woodel and Nancy J. (Holt) Woodel Sloppy.  He first had worked for the former Cresent Brick in Clearfield for 8 years, then had worked in the maintenance department for The Progress for 17 years, and currently was working for Lowes Home Improvement Store in Clearfield.
 
He was a life member of both the Clearfield Vol. Fire Department and the Lawrence Township # 1 Vol Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief of both Companies and also had held various offices in both Companies.  He also had initiated the Lawrence Township Vol. Fire Co. Rescue Service.  He also was a past member of the Clearfield Vol. Fire Dept. Fair and Park Board and served as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.
 
He wed the former Kelly J. McClelland on May 11, 1985 in the Madera United Methodist Church who survives along with his mother and step-father Merv Sloppy of Clearfield. 2 God-daughters Elaina McClelland and Sadie Rae Shellenberger, a sister Debra Gardner and husband Craig of Clearfield, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his father.
 
Funeral Services for Mr. Woodel will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Wednesday October 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Daniel Osterhout officiating.  Interment will be in the Hill Crest Cemetery, Clearfield.
 
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday October 27 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and again on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of services.
 
The family suggests contributions be made to either the Madera United Methodist Church 2579 Main Street Madera, PA 16661, the Clearfield Vol. Fire Department 108 E Cherry Street Clearfield, PA 16830, or the Lawrence Township # 1 Vol. Fire Dept. 425 Mill Road Clearfield, PA 16830.
