James L. “Jim” Hoyt Sr.
Curwensville: James Hoyt Sr. ,67, of Curwensville passed away Thursday July 9, 2026.
Born September 5, 1958 in Clearfield County, he was the son of Donald and Geraldine (Peoples) Hoyt Sr. James enjoyed his childhood in Boardmen, PA engaging in shenanigans with a group of boys that would prove to be lifelong friends. He attended Clearfield high school. After leaving school James spent 50 years working in the mining industry. Starting his career as a heavy machine operator and later spending 30+ years as the owner / operator of J.L. Hoyt Trucking Company. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed all things automotive, including motorsports. Affectionally known as “Coach” to his colleagues for his time spent involved in youth sports. James enjoyed following local athletics.
He is survived by a son James L. Hoyt Jr. (Jeanne) of Curwensville. Two granddaughters Mia and Zoe Hoyt both of Curwensville. A sister Coreen Hoyt of Kane, PA. And a sister-in-law Maxine Hoyt of Woodland, PA.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Kathleen (Hye) Hoyt, a daughter Shelly Ann Hoyt. Sister Gretchen Dunlap, and a brother Donald (Nester) Hoyt.
A memorial service will be held at Community Baptist Church on Saturday July 18, 2026 at 11 AM. Interment will be held in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received at the church on Saturday from 10 AM till the time of services at 11 AM. A gathering will follow at the Community Baptist Church social hall.
