James W. “JJ” Johnston


DuBois: James W. “JJ” Johnston, 76, of Grampian passed away Wednesday December 31, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois after a short illness.


Born October 31, 1949 in Clearfield he was the son of Mirl and Avonelle (Hatten) Johnston. He was a 1967 graduate of Curwensville Area High School. He was a Truck Driver for over 40 years driving for Hepburnia Coal Company, Audie Pentz Trucking, Lezzer Lumber, Kim Horton Coal Company and Bloxdorf Construction. He also had worked at Grice’s Gun Shop.


He was a Boy Scout and earned his Eagle Scout. He was a member of the NRA. And a member of Anderson Creek Sportsman Club. He had attended the former Grampian Church of God.


On May 6, 1978 in Curwensville, PA he wed Nancy (Spaid) Johnston who survives of Grampian, along with a son Bradley “Brad” Johnston (Kira) of Chattanooga, TN. 2 grandchildren Carter Ryan Johnston and Solara Rae Johnston of TN. Brothers and sisters Kathryn Mandetta (Donald) of Boalsburg, PA, Daniel Johnston (Maureen) of Bigler, PA, and Darren Johnston of Port Matilda, PA. And numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister Janet Johnston.


Funeral services will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc of Curwensville on Wednesday January 7, 2026 at 11 AM with Pastor Scott Schultz officiating. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery.


Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday January 6, 2026 from 3-6 PM and on Wednesday from 10 AM till the time of services at 11 AM.


The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Anderson Creek Sportsman Club PO Box 37, Rockton, PA 15856.
