Obituary for Jay Blaine Solley
Jay Blaine Solley, 88, of Grampian, passed away Thursday September 10, 2009 at his residence, after a lengthy illness.
Born August 29, 1921 in Grampian, he was the son of Roscoe and Rheva (Rowles) Solley. Mr. Solley was retired from Oxidental Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY after 38 years of service as a machinist. Mr. Solley was a U S Army Veteran of World War II serving as a UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) Member of the 593rd Amphibious Engineers Company D and spent 2 years in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1959, and was a High Priest of the Philipsburg Branch.
He was a life member of the Curwensville VFW Post 842, the Curwensville L.O.O.M. Lodge 268, the Grampian American legion Post 360, the Grampian Lion Club, the Grampian Community Choir, the Bilger Rocks Association, the Grampian Park Association, the Penn Grange #534, and was on the Grampian Boro Council for several years. Mr. Solley also worked with the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years.

Married for 62 years, he wed the former Doris H. DuFour on June 8, 1947 in Clearfield, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Solley were sealed in marriage for eternity in the Washington DC Temple in 1991. Also surviving are 3 sons and a daughter. Son Jay B. Solley Jr. and wife Betty of Big Pine Key, FL, Daughter Yvonne E. (Solley) Parry and her husband Robert of Cohocton, NY, son Sidney R. Solley and wife Susan of Niagara Falls, NY, and son Roscoe A. Solley and his fiancée Grace Taylor of Jonesboro, GA.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Tonya, Travis, Caleb, Hunter, Carl, Dezeree’, and Heather, 4 great grandchildren, a brother and a sister. Gale Solley of New Galilee, PA and Willa Jean Appleton of GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Flora Mae and Lou, and 2 brothers Leon and John.
Services for Mr. Solley will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Monday September 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Philipsburg Branch President Mr. Jeffrey Hipps, officiating. Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday September 13 from 2 to 8 PM, and Monday from 12 Noon until time of services.
 Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield American Legion and Clearfield VFW Joint Honor Guard.
 The Grampian Lions Club will conduct a Lions Memorial Service Sunday evening at 6 PM at the funeral home.
