Altoona: John A. McGary 82 of Curwensville, passed away Tuesday June 17, 2014 at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona.
Born July 2, 1931 in Pike Township he was the son of Phil and Minnie (Paffrath) McGary. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War where he earned various medals including the Army of Occupation WWII Medal. He was owner operator of McGary’s service stations in 3 different locations. He also worked for Fullington Bus Company where he was a manager and driver for over 17 years. He was a member of VFW Post 842 in Curwensville.
Surviving are 4 sons John McGary Jr. and his wife Sandy of Grampian and their children Bart, Ben and Boone McGary, Martin McGary and his wife Donna of Grampian and their children Adam McGary and his wife Justine, Abby Stiles and her husband Colt, Nate McGary and his wife Kim and Justin McGary. Scott McGary of Muncy and his children Andrew McGary and his wife Ashley, Katie Anne McGary, and Nicholas McGary. And Cory McGary of South Williamsport, and his son Patrick McGary. 4 great grandchildren Iree and Shane Stiles, and Kael and Adalie McGary.
6 brother and sisters Richard McGary of Glen Richey, Mary McGary of Curwensville, Margaret Hoehler and her husband John, Janet Plaszenski all of Colorado, Harry McGarry and his wife Judy of Bloomington, and Timothy McGarry and his wife Jan of Dubois.
He was preceded in death by his wife E. Nancy McCracken who he wed in 1954, his parents, a sister Phylis Howell, and 2 brothers Phil McGary, and Fred McGarry.
Services for Mr. McGary will be held at the First Baptist Church in Curwensville on Friday June 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Daniel Osterhout officiating. Interment will follow in Lumber City Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Thursday June 19, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Friday from 10 AM till the time of service at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Curwensville 1227 Susquehanna Avenue Curwensville, PA 16833
