Pittsburgh: John A. Starr, 76, of Curwensville passed away Friday December 20, 2024 at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System after a short illness.


Born May 14, 1948 in Clearfield he was the son of James E. and Grace (Gelnett) Starr. John had worked at Howes Leather, Superior Pet, Appalachian Wood Products, Smeal Auto Enterprises, and Grampian Boro. He was methodist by faith.


John was a United States Marine Corp Veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War. He joined the United State Marine Corp in January of 1968, and was assigned as a Combat Engineer with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company. While serving his country during Vietnam War, he was wounded and transferred back to state side to treat his serious injuries. He was discharged with an Honorable Discharge in 1974. He was recognized with numerous awards for his service to his country: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and the distinguish Purple Heart Medal to name a few.


He was a member of the Marine Corp League Detachment #289, VFW Curwensville Post #842, Vietnam Veterans of America 0720, DAV unknown soldiers #65, Military order of Purple Heart #519 USA, Toys for Tots Marine Corp League, and American Legion Post #945.


On October 30, 1976 at the Grampian Church of God he wed Jeannette (Baum) Starr who survives of Curwensville. Also surviving are brothers and sisters Helen Dunlap (Dan) of DuBois, Inez Peterson of MO, Mable Tersine (Tony) of Punxsutawney, Mary Tersine of Johnston, Pat Hand of FL, Randy Starr (Joyce) of Luthersburg, And several in-laws and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers Perry, James, and William Starr.


Funeral Services for John Starr will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc of Curwensville on Saturday December 28, 2024 at 10 AM with Reverend Stephen Shield officiating. Interment will follow in the McClure Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by member of the Marine Corp Honor Guard.


Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home on Friday December 27, 2024 from 3-6 PM and on Saturday from 9 AM to 10 AM.
