Obituary for Joseph Ray Woodel
Joseph Ray Woodel, 76, of State College and formerly of Grampian, passed away Tuesday October 10, 2017 at UPMC Pinnacle Health Care in Harrisburg.
Born June 20, 1941 in Elder Township, Cambria County, he was the son of William Miles and Ann Elizabeth (Sass) Woodel. Mr. Woodel had first been employed by the J. K. Schmidt Machine Shop as a machinist and then worked for Union Carbide Chemical Company from whom he retired.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, had served with the U S Navy prior to the Vietnam War, was a member of the Chemical Workers Union and the International Association of Machinist’s.
He was wed to the former Patricia Oberdick who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Edward and Clair Woodel, a sister Eulalia Woodel, 2 nieces Janette and Eulalia and 2nephews Edward and John.
Surviving are 2 sons Patrick Woodel of State College and Colin Woodel of Middlesex, NJ. Also surviving are 2 brothers William L. Woodel and wife Darla of Lake Ariel, PA and Norman Woodel of Chicago, and 3 sisters Teresa Morrissey of Oxford, MS, Margaret “Peggy” Woodel of Cookeville, TN and Cindy Stabile of Augusta, GA as well as several nieces and nephews.
At the request of Mr. Woodel there will be no public visitation.
Graveside services for Mr. Woodel will be held in the chapel of St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Grampian on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Father Stephen Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
