Obituary for Joseph "Sonny" Rancik Jr.

Joseph “Sonny” Rancik Jr., 100, of Grampian, passed away Thursday October 6. 2022 at the home of his son Michael Rancik.


Born July 12, 1922 in Grampian, he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Ritz) Rancik. Mr. Rancik had been a brick-layer/carpenter having worked for and retired from the former McDonald Coal Company of Curwensville.


He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and was a member of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian.


On June 21, 1947 in Clearfield, he wed the former Annie Lucille Tenon and who preceded him in death on December 2, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson Jacob Mendat; sisters Geraldine Mohney and Caroline Carns; and brothers William and Thomas Rancik.


Surviving are three children: Jennie Yost and husband Thomas of Monaca, and Mary Ann Rafferty and husband Michael and Michael Rancik and wife Lori both of Grampian. Also surviving are Eight Grandchildren, Eighteen Great Grandchildren, a brother James Rancik and wife Diane of Curwensville, and a sister Mona Jean Wood and husband Richard of Grampian.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, on Monday October 10, 2022 at 10:30 AM, with Reverend Father Stephen Collins as Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Grampian. Military Honors will be accorded at the church by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.


Family and Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Sunday October 9, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and again on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, when the procession will depart for the church.


The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: the American Diabetes Association * 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite #900 * Arlington, VA 22202.
