Obituary for Leo Walter "Pook" Turner
Leo Walter “Pook” Turner, 87, of West Decatur, passed away Saturday December 2, 2017 at the Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness.

Born August 28, 1930 in Woodland, he was the son of Leo and Nellie Wilma (McTavish) Turner. Mr. Turner had first been employed by Williams Grove Clay Products (Glen-Gerry Corp.) of Bigler, then by Bradford Coal Company of Bigler, then J. J. Powell Co and then was retired from Harbison-Walker Mining and Refractories of Clearfield.

He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church of West Decatur where he had taught Bible Studies, was a Trustee and Usher. His activities included baseball which included coaching and managing both little and teener league teams, softball. bowling and square dancing with the Chinklacamoose Squares.

On August 15, 1952 in the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church (United Methodist Church) he wed the former Elizabeth Louise “Betty Lou” Shaw who survives along with four children: Robert “Bob” Turner and wife Ann and Gary Turner and wife Dolly both of West Decatur, Reverend Brenda Leigey and husband Allen of Woodland and Theresa Krise and husband Russell of Allport.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren Mindy and husband Neal, Darren and wife Heather, Nathan and wife Misti, Leah and husband Barry, Stacey and husband Dan, Skyler, Macala and Austin; eight great grandchildren Hannah, Aarron, Taylor, Dylan, Evelyn, Owen, Elsey and Courtney; and a great great granddaughter Elliot Rose.

In addition, he is survived by a brother and two sisters: Gordon Turner and wife Sylvia and Charlotte McBride, both of Clearfield and Eileen Robenolt and husband Ardell “Buddy” of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Mary Clark and Bonnie Britton.

Funeral Services for Leo “Pook” Turner will be held at the Salem United Methodist Church in West Decatur on Tuesday December 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Michael Knepp officiating. Interment will be in the Bigler Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Monday December 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.
