Woodland: Lester Charles Welker 90 of Woodland, passed away Wednesday October 15, 2014 at his residence.
 
Born February 24, 1924 in Shiloh, Bradford Township he was the son of Loren M. and Frances (Clinger) Welker.  He was an Owner/Operator Truck Driver. He was a WWII U.S. Coast Guard Veteran serving aboard the USS Carson City as a gunner on a 20 M.M. in the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands. He received the following medals: World War II Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon from participating in the Invasion of Leyte.
 
He was a member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield, and a former member of the Clearfield VFW, and the Clearfield L.O.O.M
 
On July 30, 1949 in Clearfield he wed the former Norma Kaufman who preceded him in death on February 8, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a son Mark Welker, 4 brothers Loren M. Jr., David, Victor, Darrel and a sister Eunice Welker. Also a companion Caroline Reader of Tyrone.
 
Surviving are 4 children: Eunice Finnigan of Woodland, Larry Welker and his companion Elaine Bowman of Clearfield, Tracy Welker of O’Fallon, IL, and Craig Welker and his wife Melody of Woodland. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 brother William J. Welker of Leesburg, FL, and 1 sister Patricia Hutchings of Philipsburg.
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 10 AM with Father Brandon Kleckner officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Clearfield.
 
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Friday October 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Saturday from 9-9:30 AM. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by member of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
 
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Clearfield Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield, PA 16830
