Obituary for Louis Joseph Carfley
Louis Joseph “Louie” Carfley, 96, of Curwensville, passed away Thursday January 10, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
 
Born November 7, 1916 in Curwensville, he was the son of Patsy and Catherine (Barbatto) Carfley. Mr. Carfley was retired from the former Howes Leather in Curwensville, and was a U S Army Veteran of World War II.
 
He was a member of St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, was a 4th Degree Member of the Clearfield Council Knights of Columbus, was a life member of the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. and was a member of the Fire Co. Drill Team and was a member of and past president for many years of the former Curwensville Sons of Italy.  He also was a member of the 1936 Curwensville High School Football Team who played in the state Championship.
 
On June 24, 1950 in Curwensville he wed the former Sarah J. “Sally” Bunnell who preceded him in death on March 14, 2003.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers Samuel, Michael, Tony, Joseph “Mose”, and Raymond Carfley, 2 infant brothers, 2 sisters Bessie Fernando and Elizabeth Carfley and an infant sister.
 
Surviving is a brother Albert Carfley and his wife Peg of Curwensville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
 
At the request of the family there will be no public visitation.
 
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville with the Reverend Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde, PA
 
The family suggests contributions be made to either St. Timothy Church Memorial Fund, or the Curwensville Public library.
