Obituary for Lyle F. Domico Jr.

Lyle F. Domico, Jr. ,86, of Curwensville passed away Wednesday March 12, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois.


Born July 27, 1938, in Clearfield he was the son of Lyle F. Domico Sr. and Orlena Haye. He was a 1956 graduate of Curwensville High School where he participated in football, wrestling, and baseball. He then served his country with the United States Marine Corp, active in the Mid-East during the Suez Canal crisis and was honorably discharged in 1958. Lyle was a 1962 graduate of Lock Haven University where he was a three-year starter on the football team that won the 1961 Western Conference Championship and was a wrestler. He was also a postgraduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.


From 1962-1998, Lyle taught High School and coached football at 3 different schools: Cambria Heights, Johnstown Vo Tech and Curwensville Area. During his football coaching career, he received numerous awards and took over 5 losing programs and turned them into winning programs. He was the 1980 PA State Class AA Football Coach of the Year, PA State Scholastic Coaches Hall of Fame in 1999, Clearfield County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, Central PA Football coaches Hall of Fame in 2001 and Lock Haven Football Hall of Fame in 2013.


Lyle was also head wrestling coach at Curwensville from 1962-1969 and 9 of his wrestlers have gone on to become high school coaches. Lyle helped coach PSU football camps for 30 years and was past president of the PA Football Coaches Association.


He was a member of the Curwensville VFW #842, Clearfield B.P.O.E. #540, Clearfield Eagles Aeries #812, Curwensville American Legion Post #505, Marine Corps League and the Curwensville Moose Lodge #268.


Lyle loved his grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending their sporting, musical, and artistic events. He loved to hunt and fish and in 1974 was recognized by PA Field and Stream for catching the second largest landlock salmon in the world on a dry fly.


On April 28th, 1962, he wed his sweetheart, Janet L. Baird, who survives along with 3 sons; Lyle F. Domico III (Kate) of State College, John A. Domico (Tammy) of State College and David S. Domico (Jodi) of Clearfield; 9 grandchildren; Emma and Eleanor Domico, Rebecca Heins, Claire Grimm, Kyle and Ryan Domico, Madilyn, Nicolas and Will Domico. And a great granddaughter Norah Heins; brothers Herman Domico (Val) of Utah, Patrick Domico (Joan) of Curwensville and sister Penny DeMatteo of Clearfield.


Funeral services for Mr. Domico will be held at the Curwensville United Methodist Church on Saturday March 22, 2025 at 11 AM with Pastor Don Smith officiating. Interment will be held in the Oak Hill Cemetery of Curwensville at a later date.


Family and friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc of Curwensville on Friday March 21, 2025 from 4-7 PM
