Obituary for Margaret (Peggy) Fry
Margaret J. “Peggy” Fry, 64, of Clearfield, passed away Friday February 15, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born, December 9, 1948 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Thomas Isaiah and Dorothy Pearl (Koon) Wall. A graduate of Curwensville High School, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from The Pennsylvania State University. She taught kindergarten for 34 years in the Clearfield Area School District, 28 years at Leonard Grade Elementary School and 6 years at Clearfield Elementary School. During her career she helped shape the lives of 1,575 children.
She was a birth right member of West Branch Meeting, Religious Society of Friends, Grampian, where she served as adult leader of Quaker Youth Fellowship and also as Treasurer of the First Day School. She was representative of the Meeting to the Baltimore Yearly Meeting. At various times, she served on the Advancement and Outreach Committee, the Nominating Committee, and the Educational Funding Resources Committee where she served a term as Clerk. She was recording Clerk for Centre Quarterly Meeting, and was co-clerk of the 1999 Triennial planning committee of Friends United Meeting, an international organization.
She was a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, serving as registrar of the former Susquehanna Chapter and as Regent of the current DuBois/Susquehanna Chapter. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. She held life memberships in the Pennsylvania State Grange, Penn Grange #534 in Grampian, the Penn State Alumni Association, and Zeta Tau Alpha.
On June 14, 1975 in Clearfield, she wed Walter T. Fry Jr. who survives along with numerous cousins and extended family of her husbands.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Fry will be held at the West Branch Friends Meeting House, 415 1st Street, Grampian, PA on Tuesday February 19, 2013 at 7 PM, with Mrs. Lori Rancik as Overseer. Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian, PA
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. 16 N. Front St. Clearfield, PA on Monday February 18 from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday February 19 from 2 to 4 PM. The Daughters of the American Revolution will conduct Memorial Services Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
