Marion O. Spencer
Grampian: Marion O. Spencer, 97, of Grampian, passed away Saturday February 21, 2009 at her residence in Bells Landing.
Born March 16, 1911 in Grampian, she was the daughter of James L. and Sidney B. (Kester) Cleaver. Marian was the co-owner of the former Spencer Hardware in Grampian for 23 years and was a homemaker. She was a birthright and oldest member of the West Branch Meeting, Religious Society of Friends in Grampian, a former member of the Quaker Ladies and a fifty year member of the Penn Grange. She was a 1929 graduate of Clearfield Area High School and the DuBois Business College. She also was a volunteer with RSVP in Clearfield.
She is survived by three granddaughters Kathleen Wilson of Grampian, Nancy Hess of Bells Landing and Laurie Castagnolo and husband Joseph of Clearfield, a grandson Charles Nicholson, three great grandchildren Sarah Wilson, Daniel Hess, and Margo Castagnolo as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Ruth Ann Anderson, a son James Ronald “Red” Spencer, 2 brothers Carl and Luther Cleaver, and a sister Betty Wriglesworth. She was the last of her generation
Services for Mrs. Spencer will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Tuesday February 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM, with Mr. Walter T. Fry Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian, PA
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday February23, 2009 from 5 to 8 PM, and Tuesday from 10 AM until time of services.
The family suggests contributions be made to either the Friends Meeting Building Fund c/o Linda Henry 261 Friendly Acre Road Curwensville, PA 16833, the Curwensville Public Library 601 Beech St. Curwensville, PA 16833, or the charity of the donor’s choice
