Obituary for Mariano Mario Cipriano
Dr. Mariano “Mario” Cipriano DEduc, 78, of Clearfield, and formerly of Curwensville, passed away Monday April 22, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born June 8, 1934 in Curwensville, he was the son of Frank and Antonia (Ciotoli) Cipriano. Mr. Cipriano was an educator and administrator having first taught in the Upper Burrell/New Kensington School District from September 1955 thru June 1956 and was an educator and administrator in the Curwensville Area School District from September 1956 thru his retirement in July 1990.
He was a 1952 graduate of Curwensville High School, a 1955 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Attended Clarion and Penn State Universities, and also took correspondence courses from LaSalle Business College and the U S Army Correspondence Schools. He received his MS in Media (book and non-book) Supervision and received his Doctorate in Education in 1971 which also included his certificate in Administration and certificate to teach communication at the college level.
He served in both the U S Army and U S Army Reserves from 1956 thru 1963, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, a life member of both the National and Pennsylvania Education Association, the Curwensville Area Education Association, a life member of both the National and Pennsylvania Retired Educators Association, and the Curwensville Coffee Club
Surviving is his wife the former Carole (Smith) Litz Cipriano, 2 children Mario John Cipriano and wife Beth and Mary Beth Cipriano-Falk and husband Jeff, 4 grandchildren, a step daughter Sandra L. Weber, 3 stepsons Kevin Litz, Shawn Litz, and Darren Litz, and several step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Elaine Mellish (mother of Mario John and Mary Beth), his second wife Wava Eckert Brown Cipriano, and a stepson David Litz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville on Friday April 26, 2013 at 10 AM, with the Reverend Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde, PA.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Thursday April 25 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, and Friday from 9 to 9:45 AM, when the procession will depart for the church.
The Rosary will be recited by members of St Timothy Altar and Rosary Society Thursday at 3 PM and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted Thursday at 8:30 PM, both at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to either the Fr. James McKee Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Timothy Church or the Curwensville Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
