Obituary for Martin Pentz Hartzfeld
Martin Pentz Hartzfeld, 95, of Chestnut Grove, passed away Wednesday July 15, 2015 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Born April 19, 1920 in Bloom Township, Clearfield County, he was the son of Ai and Annie (Pentz) Hartzfeld. Mr. Hartzfeld was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as a field technician, was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church and the Grampian American Legion Post 0632.

He was a US Naval Veteran of the Second World War, having first served on the Carrier USS Intrepid during basic training. The USS Trepid served gallantly in the Pacific Theater at the Marshall Islands, Truk, Leyte Gulf and Okinawa. He later served on board the USS Estes which served as the flagship for TF52 and control center for the Iwo Jima and Okinawa beach landings.

He weds the former Leone Thomas Hartzfeld who preceded him in death on May 11, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving is a sister Mrs. Alta Phillips of Markleysburg, PA, as well as 2 nieces, 3 nephews, and numerous cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hartzfeld will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Ronald Emery officiating. Interment will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Grampian, PA

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and again on Saturday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home.
