Obituary for Maxwell Alden "Max" Cathcart
Maxwell Alden “Max” Cathcart, 73, of Curwensville, passed away Wednesday January 19, 2011 at his residence.

Born December 26, 1937 in Curwensville, he was the son of Charles Homer Cathcart and Emma Jean (Rishel) Cathcart Richards.  Mr. Cathcart was retired from the United States Postal Service Service and prior to that had worked for Kent Sportswear and 11 years at NARCO, all in Curwensville.

Mr. Cathcart was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church where he served as the custodian of the church.  He was also a member of Noble Lodge #480 F. & A.M. of Curwensville and the Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. of Curwensville.

On June 9, 1956, he wed the former Norma E. Neeper who survives along with 3 children:  Chrystine Cathcart Leonard and husband Patrick of Pittsburgh, Max Allen Cathcart and wife Barbara of Curwensville, and Andrea Leslie Cathcart-McIntosh and husband John of Honeoye, NY.

Also surviving are 4 grandchildren Nicole A. Leonard, Melissa V. Carlson, Gregory P. Leonard, and Chasity C. Cathcart, 6 great grandchildren, a sister Linda Lee Richards and husband Mark of Fort Mills, SC and a brother James Cathcart of Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Curtis Richards, 2 brothers Charles Homer “Tuft” Cathcart and Kenneth Cathcart, and a sister Betty Lou McKenrick.

Funeral Services for Mr. Cathcart will be held at the Curwensville United Methodist Church 602 State St. Curwensville on Monday January 24, 2011 at 11 AM with the Reverend Dr. Robert S. Ludrowsky, officiating.  Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville, PA

Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. 300 State St. Curwensville on Sunday January 23 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and Monday at the church from 10 AM until time of services.  A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by members of Curwensville Noble Lodge # 480 F. & A. M. on Sunday evening at 8:00 PM.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the Western Pennsylvania Chapter – National MS Society 1501 Reedsdale Street  Suite #105  Pittsburgh, PA  15233, the Curwensville United Methodist Church Window Fund 602 State Street Curwensville, PA 16833, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
