Mildred “Dodie” Spencer. 93, of Curwensville, passed away Wednesday October 5, 2022 at the home of her daughter Bobbi Spencer.
Born January 4, 1929 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Robert Mitchell and Florence Ann (Price) Ward. Dodie graduated from the Adelle Alan Beauty School of Altoona in 1948 and had run her own shop “Dodie’s Beauty Shop” on Schofield Street in Curwensville from 1948 thru 1955. She continued to keep her Beautician’s License for the remainder of her life.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking for everyone, weekends at camp, springtime trips to Walt Disney World, and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events and functions. She loved being the family chauffer and her goal was to take care of everybody. She was a member of the Hepburnia United Methodist Church.
On May 26, 1956 in Curwensville, she wed Ray L. “Buck” Spencer who preceded her in death on December 12, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert “Bob” Ward and wife Lottie, Harold G. Ward, Merle Eugene Ward, infant twin brothers, a nephew Brian Scott Ward, half-sisters Marie Ward Douglas and husband Gid and Edna Ward McGary and husband Bill, and a son-in-law Michael Pentz. She was the last of her generation.
Surviving are two children: Roberta J. “Bobbi” Spencer of Curwensville and Alan R. Spencer and wife Lori (Donahue) of Grampian. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Darren Pentz and wife Carey, Tina Rae (Pentz) Fleming and husband James, Andy A. Spencer and wife Courtney, and Stephen P. Spencer.
In addition, she is survived by nine great grandchildren: Taylor Vaughn Rippy and husband Josh, Skylar Rayne Pentz, Jossie Pentz, Michael J. Fleming, Jorja Fleming, Davis Fleming, Cole W. Spencer, Karden W. Spencer, and Kendall Lily Spencer; and two sisters-in-law Margaret “Peg” Ward and Lida Rosh Ward.
At the request of “Dodie” there will be no public visitation and private family graveside services will be held in the Friends Cemetery of Grampian.
