Obituary for Nicholas L. "Nick" Mollura
Nicholas L. “Nick” Mollura, 91, of Curwensville, passed away Wednesday February 29, 2012 at the Clearfield Hospital. Born December 5, 1920 in Clearfield, he was the son of Andrew and Margaret (Staffa) Mollura. On July 27, 1946, he wed Helen Puzzuto who preceded him in death on January 9, 1987. As a World War II veteran in the 402nd Engineer Battalion he served six campaigns: one in Africa, one in Sicily, and four in Italy where he was awarded The Good Conduct Medal, and The European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 6 Bronze Stars. He received his high school diploma from Clearfield Area High School in a ceremony on June 4, 2004, after having to leave high school before graduation to serve his country. His working career began at Elk Tanning Company and after its closing went to work at The Franklin Tannery in Curwensville. He then was employed by North American Refractories in Curwensville for 30 years and retired in 1982. He was a proud member of the 1939 Clearfield Bison undefeated football team. He loved fishing, hunting, all sports, and roller skating, in his younger days. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed the daily visits of his great niece, Lorri Fida. He is survived by two children Linda (Mollura) Sloppy and her husband Harry “Jim”, and Dennis A. "Dan" Mollura all of Curwensville. 3 grandchildren Harry “Jamie” Sloppy Jr., Melissa Sloppy, and Nicole (Sloppy) Collins and her husband Dustin all of Curwensville, and 4 great grandchildren Jarrett Sloppy, Alisha Sloppy, Seth Sloppy, and Kacyn Collins along with several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a brother Andrew of Kentucky, two sisters Sue Houser of Clearfield and Mary Schuh of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by is parents, and infant daughter Margaret, and brothers Dominic, Paul, Samuel, Peter, and a sister Margaret Rami. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, Walnut St. Curwensville on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM, with the Reverend Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde, PA Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Friday March 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, and Saturday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM, when the procession will depart for the church. The Rosary will be recited by members of St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society Friday afternoon at 2:15 PM, and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 7:45 PM Friday evening, both at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to either the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
