Obituary for Pearl LaVerne Bloom
Pearl LaVerne Bloom, 97, of New Millport, passed away Monday January 18, 2021 at her residence.
Born January 28, 1923 in Pflugerville, TX, she was the daughter of Leonard and Minna Johanna (Nehring) Steger. Mrs. Bloom was retired from Kurta Brothers in Clearfield where she had worked in several departments.
She was a 40 years member of the Salem Lutheran Church in New Millport until it was closed and then attended the Olanta Lutheran Church. She was a member of the New Millport Picnic Association and was a member of the former GFWC New Millport Woman’s Club where she had served many years as the treasurer.
On January 18, 1943 in Clovis, NM, she wed Meredith W. Bloom who preceded her in death on January 7, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son James Bloom, and four brothers: Luther, Leonard, Charles and Robert Steger. She was the last member of her generation.
Surviving are 2 daughters: Lynda Rizzo of Alexandria, VA and Bonnie Gallagher and husband Michael of Huntingtown, MD and a daughter-in-law Denise Bloom of Curwensville who also was her caregiver for the past two years. Also surviving are six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville with Pastor Richard Steuernagle officiating. Interment will be in the New Millport Cemetery.
