Obituary for Sandra H. "Sandy" Shimmel
Sandra H. “Sandy” Shimmel, 82, of Clearfield, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Mt. Laurel Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
On March 1, 2018 she celebrated 66 years of marriage to her husband. William Walter Shimmel who preceded her in death on April 2, 2018.
Born January 1, 1936 at the family farm in in LeContes Mills, she was the eldest daughter of Gordon Maxwell Sr. and Lillian Ruth (Merat) Robb. She was a graduate of Clearfield High School. She was first and foremost a loving mother to her 8 children. Mrs. Shimmel had first worked for Riverside markets, then operated the former Sandy’s Market in Downtown Clearfield during the 1970’s and then had been a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics for 40 years where she enjoyed her visits with her clients much more than the sales. After her retirement, she traveled with her husband Bill for the Kirby-Smith Associates
Sandy was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield where she served in a number of ministries over the years including: Deacon, Youth Group leader and Steven Minister
She is survived by seven children: Victoria L. Miller of Cheriton, Va., David M. Shimmel and wife Paula of Montoursville, Douglas G. Shimmel and wife Carol, Valerie D. Shaw and husband Ronald, Jeffrey D. Shimmel, and Donald C. Shimmel and wife Cindy, all of Clearfield, and Vanessa L. Martin and husband Larry of Valrico, Fla. Her eldest son, William W. Shimmel, Jr. of Clearfield, preceded her in death in 2016. Sandy is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law Susan Shimmel of Clearfield
Also surviving is a sister Karin Miller of Gettysburg, 4 sister’s-in-law Lenora Gail “Putch” Shimmel of Osceola Mills, Diane “Skip” C. Twist and husband William “Twiddles” of Philipsburg, Nellie Shimmel of Niagara Falls, and Maxine Shimmel of Bigler as well as 4 generations of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Gordon M. Robb Jr. and a sister Patricia Radonovich
Public visitation will be held Saturday June 9, 2018, at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 PM. Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of the Clearfield Presbyterian Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
