Obituary for Tom Shaffer

Thomas Lloyd “Tom” Shaffer Sr., 70, of Curwensville, went into the arms of his loving savior on Friday October 21, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by loved ones.

Born March 8, 1952 in Clearfield, he was the son of Lloyd and Jean (McCracken) Shaffer. Tom was a graduate of Curwensville Area High School and had worked on his family farm. His skills included working at the former Westover Tannery and the former Howes Leather Co. in Curwensville, the Pike Township Municipal Authority for many many years, had worked in road construction as well as doing his own construction work for many families in the area.

But the job he loved the most and did not give up until his health forced him to, was as Animal Enforcement Officer. It kept him connected with the community and he loved animals. He was employed by Curwensville Borough and also Pike Township as an Animal Enforcement Officer and would often come to the aid of whoever needed help.

There is no doubt that Tom was a family man and loved kids. He loved going to family gatherings and talking with everyone, but Tom’s idea of fun/vacation was to work-anywhere from helping you find your pet, to putting on a roof/siding or fixing your plumbing – he was a man of many traits.

He was a former member of the Curwensville L.O.O.M. Family Center #268 and was an active member of the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co.

Surviving is his mother of Curwensville, his wife the former Janelle Ruffner whom he wed on December 23, 2003, three children: Thomas Shaffer Jr. of Palmyra, Chellie Blesh and her husband Tim of Bellefonte, and Nathan Shaffer and wife Katie of Clearfield; as well as five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters: Geri Brady and husband Bill of DuBois and Sharon Gates of Curwensville; and two brothers: Dennis Shaffer and wife JoLynn and Ronald Shaffer and wife Becky both of Curwensville as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant grandson Jacob Shaffer.

A Public Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday November 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Faith Bible Church * 398 Grandview Road * Curwensville, PA 16833, with the Reverend Scott Schultz officiating.
