Obituary for Walter D. "Pete" McCracken
Walter DeHaas “Pete” McCracken, 98, of Lumber City, passed away Friday August 21, 2009 at the Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.



Born January 17, 1911 in Lock Haven, he was the son of Edwin and Jenny (Williams) McCracken.  Mr. McCracken was employed by N.A.R.C.O. first at the Lumber City Plant for 35 years and then retired from the Curwensville Plant after 13 years of service.  He was a member of the United Brick and Clay Workers Union -  Curwensville Local, and a life member of the Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. where he was also a member of the Drill Team in the 1940’s and 50’s.



He had wed the former Kathryn Smith who preceded him in death on September 22, 2000.  He was also preceded in death by his parents.



Surviving are 5 children: Walter Dean McCracken and his wife Dorothy, Fredric A. McCracken and his wife Linda, and Richard K. McCracken and his wife Joanne all of Lumber City, Betty M. Aughenbaugh and her husband Jack of Philipsburg, and Donald M. McCracken and his wife Patty of Stronach.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.



Services for Mr. McCracken will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville, on Wednesday August 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend M. Bruce Dimmick officiating.  Interment will be in the Lumber City Cemetery, Lumber City.



Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday August 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, and Wednesday from 9 AM until time of services.
