Obituary for Chester James Ross
Chester James “Chet” Ross, 88, of Clearfield, passed away Saturday August 28, 2010 at the Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.
Born July 3, 1922 in Bells Landing, he was the son of Frank and Sarah (Horne) Ross. He had been employed by the former Robinson Clay in Clearfield, part-time by The Progress, and was retired from Breman’s Trucking in Hyde. He was a U S Army Veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Clearfield Free Methodist Church and was a former trustee of the church, was a member of the former Mt. Joy Grange and is a member of the Teamsters Union Local #110.
In 1946 in Hastings he wed the former Virginia R. Stumpf who preceded him in death on February 23, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Allen Ross, Woodrow Ross and Russell Ross, and a sister Mary Bowery.
Surviving are 3 sons: Donald Ross and his wife Mary of Wrightsville Beech, NC, Robert Ross and his wife Pamela of Kansas City, MO, and Lawrence Ross and his wife Diane of Reading, PA. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was the last member of his generation.
Services for Mr. Ross will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Wednesday September 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Joel Leininger officiating. Interment will be in the Bradford Cemetery Woodland.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday August 31 from 7 to 9 PM, and Wednesday from 9 AM until time of services. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Clearfield Foundation for Health – Hospice.
