Obituary for Gladys May Knepp
Gladys May (Schucker) Knepp, 88, of Curwensville passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.

Born Aug. 23, 1932 in Clearfield she was the daughter of the late Roy and Viola (Dunlap) Schucker.

On Oct. 2, 1953 she married Calvin M. Knepp Jr. who preceded her in death in 1981. The couple resided in Grampian where Gladys was a member of the Grampian Methodist Church, member and past-president of Grampian Methodist Women, member and past-president of Grampian Women’s Club and county and past-president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She also taught bible school, Sunday school and volunteered with the Girl Scouts.

She met her close companion, John Harchak, in 1983, with whom she remained in a close relationship with until his death in 2020.

She moved to Curwensville in 1983 and attended Curwensville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She was also active with the Houtzdale Women of the Moose, Clearfield Legion Auxiliary and member and past officer of the #379 Order of the Eastern Star.

Gladys was employed by Kurtz Brothers from 1953 to 1957 and the Clearfield Cheese Company from 1968 until its closing in 1989. After her retirement she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Curwensville Library as well as various nursing homes. She also spent endless time with her many grandchildren, participating in all of their activities, and she enjoyed traveling. She was also an avid crocheter and gave away many afghans to new mothers, soldiers and seniors in need.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane (Schucker) McLaren; brother, Robert L. Schucker, and daughter, Judy Petryshak, with whom she resided with for several years before her death in 2019.

Surviving are two sons: Andrew Knepp and wife Donna of Schuylkill Haven, Pa; Terry Knepp and wife Judy of Morrisdale; two daughters: Patricia (Don) Meyers of Dillsburg, Pa; and Wendy (Delmont) Knepp of Curwensville and 4 siblings: Peggy (Harold) Rhone of Punxsutawney, Pa; David Schucker and wife Jean of Oklahoma; Elizabeth Goulet of Carlisle, Pa; and James Schucker of Clearfield.

She is also survived by five grandsons; Ryan Kirkwood, Christopher Knepp, Brian Knepp, Lance Kirwood and Scott Knepp; and six granddaughters; Mindy Krause, Sheena Kirkwood, Elizabeth Gormont, Amelia Burns, Amanda Hansell and Jayna Knepp, as well as five great-grandchildren; Alexis Gillingham, Taylor Kirkwood, Berkley Knepp, Holden Krause and Kylah Gormont.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 8 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc in Curwensville followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend Stephen D. Shields officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA. Masks must be worn when attending the visitation and funeral.
