Obituary for Blanche Alice Baum
Blanche Alice Baum, 95, a guest of Christ The King Manor, and formerly of Brockway, passed away Thursday June 13, 2013 at the Manor. She had made her home with her daughter Dorothy Mae Collins of Brockway prior to her stay at Christ The King Manor.
Born May 18, 1918 in Luthersburg, she was the daughter of Alfred and Minnie Mae (Gearhart) Gearhart. During World War II, she worked in an Airplane Factory in New York State as a “Rosie The Riveter” and received a special World War II Commendation Victory Medal from the U S Government and the Pennsylvania General Assembly. She then had worked for the former Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois in the kitchen as a cook until her retirement.
She first wed Marl Lynn McCracken who preceded her in death. She then wed Fredrick Clair “Fred” Baum who preceded her in death on June 3, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Norman D. McCracken, a daughter Pamela Mae Dickey, 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 great great grandchildren, brothers Thomas, Frank, and Manuel Gearhart, and sisters Mae Keagle and Beulah Kurten.
Surviving are 5 children: Marl Lynn McCracken and wife Ann of Albany, GA, William J. “Bill” McCracken and wife Fran of Barker, NY, Frances A. Davidson and husband Al of Mississippi, Dorothy Mae Collins and husband Brad of Brockway, Jeanette Starr and husband John of Curwensville RD. and Daughter-in-law Barbara McCracken of Grampian.
Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, brothers Gene Gearhart and wife Jennie of Maine and Glenn Gearhart of Reynoldsville and a sister Loretta Bliss of Brookville.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Baum will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc., of Curwensville, on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor David Nagele officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday June 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and Tuesday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM.
