Dallas A. Kessler
State College: Dallas A. Kessler, 92, of Stronach, passed away Tuesday morning January 27, 2009 at the Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in State College.

He was born November 6, 1916 in DuBois, the son of the late Esther (Teates) Kessler Spencer and Calvin Kessler. Mr. Kessler served in the Civilian Conservation Corps doing forestry and stone masonry work. After that her served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and enjoyed telling stories about his boots and the beautiful horses in the Calvary Regiment.

Next he worked as a riveter on B-26 bombers and then served his country in the 35th Infantry Regiment in the U S Army during World War II. He drove Jeeps on the mountainous roadways in Japan.

Locally, he worked for many years with C. J. Neff and Sons Construction doing plumbing, heating, and carpentry work. After retiring from C J Neff, he work with Cosmo Guglielmi doing stone and masonry work, throughout the area.. He had a great passion for doing woodworking crafts for friends and family, and was an avid reader.

On March 22, 1940 he wed the former Vida “Polly” Shubert who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Lester Spencer, 5 brothersFloyd and Philbert Kessler and Joseph, Vernon, and Dean Spencer, and 3 sisters Dorothy Kessler Edith Kessler Hillhouse, and Betty Spencer Day.

Surviving are 3 children, a son Edward Kessler and wife Mary Ann of Grampian and daughters Karen Caldwell and husband Brad of Port Matilda and Donna Milliron and husband David of Stormstown.

Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, a brother Don Spencer and wife Joann of Stronach and sisters Jean Spencer Irwin and husband Gerald of Mahoopany, PA and Eleanor Spencer Witherite and husband Harry of Ormond Beach, FL.

Services for Mr. Kessler will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. 300 State St. Curwensville, PA on Thursday January 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Savid Spaugh officiating. Internment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde, PA

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday January 28, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM, and Thursday from 9 AM until time of services. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Joint Honor Guard.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the Curwensville Public Library 602 Beech Street Curwensville, PA 16833 or any Veterans Organization
