Obituary for Don Haney
Donald L. Haney, 86, of Clearfield, passed away early Thursday morning June 9, 2022 at Knickerbocker Villa in Clearfield with his wife of 68 years by his side.
Born August 14, 1935 in Glen Richey, he was the son of Orvis and Velma (Peoples) Haney. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1953. He was a member of the Centre Grove United Methodist Church and also had attended the Clearfield Alliance Church for many years. He was an usher in both churches. He also had served in the US Army Reserves.
Don started working at the former Clearfield Bank and Trust Company (Now Mid Penn Bank) in 1956 and work as a teller, did past due loan collections, and loan department teller. From 1971 through 1973, he was Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary and Assistant Vice President. For 22 years, from 1974 through January 1997, when he retired, he was Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer.
Don was a graduate of PBA’s Intermediate and Advanced Schools of Banking at Bucknell University, BAI’s Bank Operations program at the University of Maryland, and Mellon Bank’s Concentrated Course in Banking.
He had been a director and treasurer for the Clearfield Chapter of the American Cancer Society for over Twenty-two years, was treasurer of the Clearfield Builder’s Association for nine years and he and his wife Janet was members of the County Crew Dance Club and they entertained at various venues throughout the area. Don was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan
On October 10, 1954 in Mahaffey, he wed the former Janet Rager who survives, along with three children: Laurel Haney of Warren; Randy Haney and wife Rena’ of Coalport; and Brenda Ickes and husband Mark of Hershey.
Also surviving are four grandchildren: Bridget Rizzardi and husband Ryan, Molly Flynn-Brown and husband Justin, Matthew Haney and James Haney; and three great grandchildren: Cole Haney, Jaxson Haney, and Marta Brown; and a special friend Markie Sicheri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bernard Haney.
At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation and Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield with Mr. James Kane officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Bethel Cemetery of Glen Richey.
