Obituary for Hugh Phillips
Hugh Phillips, 89, of Stronach, passed away Saturday May 28, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Johnstown.
Born March 29, 1922 in Grampian, he was the son of Henry John and Janet H. (Philips) Phillips. He was a 1941 graduate of Clearfield High School, he first worked for Airplane-Marine in Hyde for 16 years and then was employed as a sheet metal design draftsman for TAFCO of Hyde retiring in 1984 after 26 years of service.
He was a life Member of the Grampian-Penn-Bloom Vol. Fire Co., was one of the original organizers of the Cub and Boy Scouts in Grampian, was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #12, and was a member of the Curwensville VFW.
On February 4, 1944 in Clearfield, he wed the former Dorothy A. “Dot” Freeman who survives along with 2 children James Phillips of Pittsburgh and Susan Guelich of Clymer and 3 grandchildren Steven, Douglas, and Angela.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Danny Phillips, and 3 brothers Henry “Nick”, George, and Leonard Phillips. He was the last member of his generation.
Funeral Services for Hugh Phillips will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Emmett Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery Grampian, PA.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday May 31 from 6 to 8 PM, and Wednesday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM.
The family suggest contributions be made to the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Sixth Street Grampian, PA 16838.
