Curwensville: John H. Gearhart 84 of Woodland, passed away at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness


Born February 9, 1938 in Clearfield he was the son of Walter and Mina A. (Womer) Gearhart. He was a truck driver for Lewistown Bakery and retired from Soult Wholesale after 40 years of service as a truck driver. In his retirement he also worked for Fink Transportation.


He was a member of Calvary U.M.C. where he served on various church boards. He was a square dancer with Chinklacamoose for 20 years. He also enjoyed craft shows, woodworking, trains and hunting with his family.


With his woodworking skills John and his family used trees from their family property, where they cut and milled them to build their current home


On November 16, 1957 in Bigler he wed Mary Ann (Williams) Gearhart who survives of Woodland. Also 2 children David J. Gearhart and his wife Jerilyn of Hebron, IN, and Gwendolyn Buck and her husband Rodney of Pinetop. A sister-in-law Rev.Gay Ann Gearhart of Unityville, PA,  7 grandchildren Christopher Gearhart (Amanda), Elizabeth Glica (Brendan), Travis Gearhart and significant other (Erin Sutherland), Sierra Dice (Greg), Austin Gearhart and fiancé (Amy Mikolajczak), Hillary Wygonik (Adam), Weston Buck and significant other (Samantha Foster). 8 great grandchildren Benjamin Gearhart, Timothy Gearhart, Gage Lee Gearhart, Serenity Gearhart, Jonathan Dice, Nathaniel Dice, Carson Dice, Madison Glica.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a son John Walter Gearhart.


Funeral Services for John Gearhart will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc of Curwensville on Friday January 27, 2023 at 11 AM with Georgia Litz officiating. Interment will be held in the Bigler Cemetery at a later date.


Friends will be received at the Funeral Home on Thursday January 26, 2023 from 4-7 PM and on Friday from 10 AM till the time of services at 11 AM.


The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Calvary United Methodist Church 167 Blue Ball Road, West Decatur, PA 16878 or the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
