Obituary for Laura Jean Fowler
Laura Jean (Johnston) Fowler, 90, of Philipsburg, passed away Sunday January 20, 2019 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
Born March 18, 1928 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of Earl and Bertha A. (Bean) Johnston. Mrs. Fowler was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Philipsburg.
On June 28, 1946 in Osceola Mills, she wed Russell James Fowler Sr. who preceded her in death on May 11, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a great grandson Fulton G. Mattocks and 2 brothers LeRoy and Hiram Johnston.
Surviving is her companion Richard Barrett of Philipsburg, 2 daughters and a son: Judith Hilderbrand and her husband Charles Sr. of Readville, VA, Jacqueline Braniff and husband Kenneth Jr. of Clearfield and Russell J. Fowler Jr. of Osceola Mills.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Michael Barbara and wife Beth of Winchester, VA, Charles Hilderbrand Jr. and wife Shannon and David Hilderbrand both of Fredericksburg, VA, Lisa Barbara and partner Jared Sharer of State College, Erin Mattocks and husband Geoffrey of Erie, Kimberly Robb of Pittsburgh and Russell J. Fowler III and partner Jessica of CT.
In addition, she is survived by 15 great grandchildren, 2 sisters and 2 brothers: Priscilla Fleck of Shawville, Alice Blickley and husband Michael of NJ, Donald Johnston and wife Ursula of Fayetteville, NC and Edward Johnston and wife Nellie of the Philippines.
There will be no public visitation.
Private Family Funeral Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family at a later date. Interment will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery, Philipsburg.
