Obituary for Serena Rose English
Serena Rose English, 85, of Mineral Springs, passed away Friday July 30, 2010 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born February 12, 1925 in Brownsville, PA, she was the daughter of Louis and Santina (Wyno) Crapis. Mrs. English was a homemaker but prior to being married had worked for both Bell Aircraft and Nabisco Shredded Wheat Factories, both in New York. In later years, she had worked for the Clearfield Presbyterian Church Pre-School as an aid.
She was a member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield.
On May 30, 1953 in Niagara Falls, NY, she wed William English who preceded her in death on August 10, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her step father Joseph Porto, and three sisters. Maggie Crapis, Carmella Crapis, and Sylvia Mash.
Surviving are 2 daughters: Christine Bumbarger and her husband Harold of Clearfield and Cynthia Crowe and her husband Dan of Harrisburg. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and a sister Louise Oliverio of Grand Island, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield on Monday August 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM, with the Reverend Father John Chaplin as celebrant. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde, PA.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. 16 N. Front Street Clearfield on Sunday August 1 from 5 to 8 PM, and on Monday from 9 until 9:40 AM, when the procession will depart for the Church.
A Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted for Mrs. English on Sunday August 1 at the funeral home at 4:45 PM, followed by the reciting of the Rosary at 5:00 PM by members of the St. Francis Altar and Rosary Society.
The Family suggests contributions be made to either the American Heart Association 501 Howard Avenue Suite #101 Altoona, PA 16601 or St. Francis Roman Catholic Church 212 S. Front Street Clearfield, PA 16830.
