Obituary for Virginia Ruth Sopic
Virginia Ruth Sopic, 94, of Curwensville, passed away Thursday evening, September 16, 2010, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Bobbie Sopic.
Born June 16, 1916 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Anna (Cyphert) Turner. Mrs. Sopic was a homemaker, and early in her working career she had been employed at Clearfield Hospital in the Laundry Service and also at the former T J Norris Dry Cleaning in Clearfield.
She was a member of St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, the St. Timothy’s Church Choir, the St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society, the Curwensville Town Choir, a former member of the Clearfield Choral Society, the Curwensville VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co.
On July 6, 1946 in Clearfield, she wed Joseph Edward Sopic who preceded her in death on November 13. 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a great grandson Isaac Sopic, 3 brothers Gary, Ambrose “Sonny”, and Philip Turner, and 2 sisters Kathleen Collins and Pauline Mitchell.
Surviving are 5 children: Cecelia Wagner and her husband Stephen of Carlisle, J. Mark Sopic and his wife Bobbie, Frederick G. Sopic and his wife Shirley, and James D. Sopic all of Curwensville, and Jason Sopic and his wife Monique of Clearfield.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a sister Leah “Toots” Adamson of Youngstown, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville on Monday September 20, 2010 at 10 AM, with Reverend Father Mark J. Mastrian as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde, PA.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Sunday September 19 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and Monday from 9 until 9:30 AM when the procession will depart for the church.
The Rosary will be recited my members of St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society Sunday at 3:00 PM and a Scripture Vigil Services will be conducted at 3:45 PM Sunday, both at the funeral.
The family suggests contributions be made to the St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society 306 Walnut Street Curwensville, PA 16833
